Dealing with mosquitoes isn’t fun for anyone, especially if you’re prone to getting bitten by them. Luckily, we offer the mosquito control services you need at Quality Control, Inc. We are also happy to help you to prevent mosquitoes in the first place by offering a few useful tips.
There are lots of strategies you can incorporate in your mosquito prevention plan:
- Install and repair screens. Make sure your window and door screens are intact and free of any tears or gaps where mosquitoes could enter your home. If you like to spend time outdoors but don’t want to be bothered by bloodsucking insects, consider a screened-in porch or patio.
- Find effective repellents. There are all sorts of repellents you can use on yourself or around your property to deter mosquitoes, including natural repellents. DEET, the active ingredient in many mosquito repellents, is known for being highly effective, but you can also use eucalyptus and other natural oils, plus mosquito coils and citronella lanterns.
- Eliminate standing water. Mosquitoes breed in standing water, so it’s extremely important to eliminate any standing water in your yard or near your home. Address any drainage problems around your property and check regularly that you don’t have any buckets or pots filled with water that mosquitoes could find enticing.
- Avoid wearing dark colors. Mosquitoes have heat-sensing organs called thermoreceptors. Because dark colors absorb heat, mosquitoes are more likely to go after hosts that are wearing dark colored clothing. You can reduce your risk of mosquito bites by avoiding colors like black, navy blue, red, orange, and brown.
