Although October tends to be a month where spiders are celebrated during the Halloween season, they are still not something we want to see in our homes. However, there are some preventative measures homeowners can take to practice spider control in their homes year-round.
- Keep a clean home. A clean home reduces the places that spiders can hide. Be sure to vacuum in corners, behind furniture, and under beds. These are all common spaces you may find spiders hiding.
- Keep clutter at a minimum. Keeping areas tidy will prevent spiders from inhabiting areas you may not be able to see. They can be found in piles of clothes, behind or in stacked boxes, or hiding in stacks of paper. Having these items neat and put away will enhance spider control in your home.
- Remove webs if you see them. Removing webs as you see them can significantly reduce the potential of finding spiders in your home. Webs can house egg sacs and young spiders, so vacuuming them up as soon as possible will remove the tiny pests from your home.
- Install screens. As the weather becomes cooler, homeowners tend to open windows and prop doors open to let the breeze in. Unfortunately, spiders are looking for a warm place to hide as the temperature drops, and inside your home is an ideal place. Installing screens on your windows and doors can help keep spiders out all year.
